FAQ
Questions about Momoto tofu litter
Momoto is a plant-based tofu cat litter: low dust, firm clumping, and its urine clumps can be flushed in small amounts. Below are straight answers on using it, flushing it, and how we test it on camera.
About the litter
What is Momoto tofu cat litter made of?
Momoto is a plant-based litter made from corn flour, corn starch, tofu pulp (okara, the by-product of making tofu) and guar gum, pressed into fine pellets. It is not a clay or silica litter.
How is tofu litter different from clay litter?
Tofu litter is plant-based, lighter to carry and low in dust, and its urine clumps can be flushed in small amounts. Clay litter is heavier, can be dustier and should never be flushed. Clay usually costs less per bag.
Is Momoto dusty?
Momoto is low dust, not dust-free. In our glove test, black gloves stayed clean after digging and pouring the litter. You can watch it on our test page. Pour gently for the least dust.
How well does Momoto clump?
Urine forms firm clumps that lift out whole with a scoop. In our 42 Pee Challenge, clumps still held together after 42 simulated pees in the same tray.
Does it help with litter box odour?
Scooping urine clumps every day removes the main source of litter box odour, and firm clumps make that quick. Original keeps a clean, minimal scent. Green Tea adds a light green tea scent.
Using Momoto
How much litter should I put in the box?
Fill a clean litter box to a depth of 5 to 8 cm (2 to 3 inches). Top up as the level drops.
How often should I scoop and change the litter?
Scoop solid waste and urine clumps every day, then add litter as needed. Replace all the litter every 3 to 4 weeks, or sooner if needed.
How long does a 2.5 kg bag last?
It depends on the number of cats, box size and litter depth. As a reference, in our 42 Pee Challenge two bags (5 kg) in one tray handled about two weeks of simulated use for one cat, with no reset.
How do I switch my cat to tofu litter?
Switch gradually. Mix a small amount of Momoto into your current litter and increase it over 7 to 10 days until the box is all Momoto. Most cats accept the change more easily this way.
Is it safe if my cat eats a little?
Momoto is made from plant-based ingredients, but it is litter, not food. If your cat keeps eating litter, check with your vet, because it can be a sign of a health or diet issue.
Flushing and disposal
Can I flush Momoto?
You can flush small amounts of urine clumps at a time. Never flush solid waste. Check your local plumbing rules first, and if your home uses a septic system, put used litter in the garbage instead.
Why shouldn't I flush solid waste?
Cat feces can carry parasites such as Toxoplasma, which wastewater treatment may not remove. Bag solid waste and put it in the garbage. If you are pregnant or have a weakened immune system, ask your doctor about litter box care.
Can I compost used litter?
Do not compost used litter, and never use it where food is grown, because cat waste can carry parasites. Put used litter in the garbage, or flush small amounts of urine clumps.
The 42 Pee Challenge
What is the 42 Pee Challenge?
It is our on-camera test: 42 simulated pees of 30 mL each (1.26 L in total) poured into one tray with two bags of Momoto, about three a day for two weeks of use for one cat. We scooped as you would at home, never reset the tray, and filmed it in one take. At the end, the clumps were still firm, the bottom was clean and there was very little powder. Watch the full test.
Why did you use water instead of real urine?
Water lets us measure every pour exactly, repeat the test and film it fairly. Real urine contains salts and other compounds, so results at home can differ. It is a demonstration, not a laboratory test.
Can I try the 42 Pee Challenge myself?
Yes. Fill a tray with two bags of litter, pour 30 mL of water about three times a day, scoop clumps as usual and dig to the bottom after pour 42. Film it and tag @momo.catlitter. We would love to see it.
Momo Care
What is Momo Care?
Momo Care is a pH awareness add-on for the litter box. It changes colour during your daily litter routine to help you notice changes. It is a monitoring aid only, not a diagnostic tool.
What should I do if I notice a change?
Contact your vet. Also call your vet right away if your cat strains to pee, goes often with little coming out, or has blood in the urine. Straining with nothing coming out is an emergency, especially in male cats.
